Stonebroom Recreation Ground

Recreation Ground

The Stonebroom Recreation Ground should not be confused with the nearby Parish Sportsground.  The Recreation Ground is accessed from the High Street, just past the School whose land it adjoins.  This area, which is registered with the Charity Commission, is the property of CISWO – the Coal Industry Social and Welfare Organisation – but is held in Trust in perpetuity by the Parish Council and all Councillors are Trustees.  The area is covered in trees which were planted by the Council with the help of a grant from the Forestry Commission.

The land is bordered in the north by the Morton Brook and a bridge leads to another piece of CISWO land in Morton Parish.  The area is freely available to all for playing, walking, picnicking, nature study etc. on all but one day of the year.
